Copper, aluminium, brass and batteries follow international metal prices. When LME copper rises, copper and brass scrap rates usually rise the same day; battery scrap follows lead.
Scrap is always priced below the market, because it has to be collected, sorted and melted. How far below depends on the grade: clean bright copper wire or clean aluminium sections get close to the market price, while mixed, coated or contaminated scrap gets less.
Iron and steel scrap follow the domestic steel market in Punjab — Mandi Gobindgarh is the main reference — rather than the LME. Stainless steel also moves with nickel.
